River Severn 04-26
Location: Arley to Bewdley on the River Severn
Distance: 6km
Duration: 3 hours
Leader: Phil
Birmingham Canoe Club members met in Arley on a mild, sunny day in early April for a relaxed paddle along the River Severn, heading downstream to Bewdley. Led by Phil, the group included a mix of kayaks and canoes, with paddlers of all abilities enjoying time on the water together. For a few members, this was their first time paddling on moving water, and the gentle flow and supportive group made it a great introduction. The river was mostly calm, with just a couple of mild rapids to keep things interesting.
Along the way, we took the opportunity to practise skills such as ferry gliding on one of the river features, with plenty of support and encouragement from the group. After a few miles on the water, we stopped for lunch by a small stream feeding into the Severn — a great chance to relax and take in the surroundings. Covering around 4 miles in total, it was a really enjoyable day combining skill development, easy paddling, and good company — a great example of what club trips are all about.
