White Water Award

Learn essential skills for safe and fun white water paddling on rivers up to grade 2.

Not suitable for beginners. 

Cost: £40 for members and £75 for non-members

Duration: one day

The White Water Award will give you the skills needed for safe and fun white water paddling on rivers up to grade 2.

​

White water is a dynamic and ever-changing environment. You will learn skills and strokes to stay in control of your boat at all times and safely drive your boat around the river.  You will also learn how to 'read' the water and identify potential hazards so that you can make safe decisions quickly, based on your skill level. 

​

This award is not suitable for beginners. If you've never been paddling before, we recommend you start with the Paddle Start Award, the Paddle Safer Award, the Paddle Discover Award, and the Paddle Explore Award, which will give you essential skills and knowledge to help you become a safe and confident paddler.

What will I learn?

  • Getting ready and planning ahead

  • Choosing and using the right clothing and personal safety equipment

  • Assessing river and weather conditions

  • Assessing river access and environmental factors

  • Understanding water levels, grades and features

  • Techniques and skills for navigating dynamic water

  • Safety and rescue skills including self-rescue
